All citizens or people of Pakistan are issued Computerized National Identification Card (CNIC) by the Government of Pakistan official authority NADRA (National Database and Registration Authority. Computerized National Identification Card (CNIC) verifies every person’s Pakistani citizenship.

CNIC contain or consist of thirteen (13) numbers. Specific CNIC number is issued for every citizens of Pakistan which is totally different from one citizen or person to another  citizen.

However, there is a interesting facts or meaning behind every digit of its 13-digit number. The CNIC number comprises three parts. Each part here contains information. Most of us don’t know about this information.

The first part comprises five (5) digits, second part comprises seven (7) digits and last and third part consist of only one (1) digit.

The First Five  numbers or digits of CNIC represent the Citizen or Person Province, Division, District, Tehsil and Union Council. The each numbers of CNIC contain following information;

First Part

First Number / 1st Number Represent the Province of Citizen.

Second Number / 2nd Number Represent the Division of that particular Province of Citizen

Third Number / 3rd Number Represent the District of that particular Division of Citizen

Fourth Number / 4th Number Represent the Tehsil of that particular District of Citizen

If 4th Number or Tehsil Number is 0 (zero) then it means that both District and Tehsil have the same name. In my case 61101, both District and Tehsil have same name i.e Islamabad.

Fifth Number / 5th Number Represent the Union Council (UC) of Citizen

Second Part

The Second and middle part of the CNIC number consist of seven digits, which is split from hyphens (-) such as 61101-xxxxxxx-1 represents the Family Code of Pakistani citizen. This code actually compose the family tree of that particular person with people who have blood relations.

Third Part

The last and the lonely digit after the last hyphen represents your sex or gender. For a man, odd digits i.e. 1, 3, 5, 7…. are used, while even digits i.e. 2, 4, 6… are used for women.
