How was the word “Bankrupt” derived.
The early bankers transacted their money lending activities on benches in the market place. If was not in the position to pay his debts, then the creditors used to break his bench and he was considered as insolvent. Now-a-days, if any bank faces this situation, it is called bankrupt.
