The zoo had some lions and some parrots. the supervisor counted 15 heads and 50 legs. How many lions are there?
Here, I share with you a trick to solve these types of questions within seconds.
Solution:
According to this question information has given about parrots and lions. It means two things. These types of question where two variables given solve with the help of Simultaneous equation methods.
Methods of solving Simultaneous Equation
- Elimination Method
- Substitution Method
- Graphing Method
Here I am solving by Substitution method.
Let:
- The number of lion = X
- The number of parrot = Y
x + y = 15 ……………………………(i)
4x + 2y = 50 ……………………………(ii)
Find the value of x form equation (i) and put the x value in equation (ii)
x = 15 – y
4(15 – y) + 2y = 50
60 – 4y + 2y = 50
-2y = 50 – 60
-2y = -10
y = -10/-2
y = 5
Now, y = 5 put in equation (i)
x + 5 = 15
x = 15 – 5
x = 10
- The number of lion = X = 10
- The number of parrot = Y = 5
